Founded in 1923, the writer Compton Mackenzie and Christopher Stone (later known radio broadcaster). It is considered one of the most influential publications of this kind in the world, meeting at the same time constant criticisms (eg, from the well-known critic Norman Lebrecht) about the close ties with the major record corporations (primarily, EMI).
